The Venue

Platinum Plaza has an interesting history. Originally known as the Old Hill Plaza, it was set up in 1963 as a dance hall by an Irish husband and wife team, Mr and Mrs Regan, and according to the Birmingham history website, hosted every act in the Top 30.

Its claim to fame is that acts such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Animals all played there in the early 1960s.

It was later turned into a Bingo Hall (Plaza Bingo) and closed in 2008 when the owner Mary 'Ma' Regan died at the age of 94.

The venue was bought by Ashok Kumar in 2009 and completely refurbished to its present state.

The Business

Platinum Plaza is a goal of many years that has been achieved by owner Ashok Kumar of Asia Marquees, Tent Hire and Wedding Services. This has been accomplished through extremely hard work, dedication, the provision of a high quality service and the continued support of his family, in particular the sustained efforts of his wife, Balbinder.

Asia Marquees, Tent Hire and Wedding Services was founded by Ashok many years ago, and started off as a small business. It has gradually expanded to become a very well-reputed family business and is now one of the largest wedding service providers in the West Midlands.
